I have decided to open a Site feedback forum as I know you all have many good ideas that I need to capture and a forum is the best was to follow any discussion on topics. Please feel free to provide me with any constructive feedback and/or suggestions on how you think this site could be improved. What do you like/dislike about the current site? What’s missing that your need. Something here that you don't need? Let me know. No guarantees that your wish list will be granted, but if we can do it and we all agree that’s it's a good idea, I will do my best.
Some of you will have noticed a few changes, some transitory, to the site in recent days. These are likely to continue sporadically as we find out both what people want and need, and what we can actually achieve. The font size problem is proving a little tricky but its not impossible as you may have seen with a small change to the Home page Announcements. We have now reverted to the original font to maintain 'balance' whilst reviewing the effects of a possible site wide change at a later date. This is not as simple as pushing a few buttons, it requires some software detective work on Dave's behalf and is something we may pursue further.
The Post Announcements confusion problem is another that we are considering. This also requires some reverse engineering but remains a possibility that we will pursue. You may have noticed that we have stopped the scrolling of News and Forum 'latest posts' as some of our readers found this distracting.
I'll try and keep you updated here as and when we make changes and also to keep you all abreast of our thinking. Your comments here are welcome and will all be considered but please remember that either here on the site or by email we get a lot of conflicting requests. Its not possible to please everyone but we will do our best.
Ive just lost one reply by pressing "post reply" rather than reply to thread" .. in the "quick reply" box. If this confused me, maybe it will confuse even more the guy whos 1st Language isnt English?
The gray text colour is common to all message boxes on this site. As you can see its the same here in this forum as it is in the Announcements page. I'll have a play and let you know.
The above test and double post was due to me not realising on the forums when one posts, the reply appears at the bottom of the page. On the Announcement page it appears at the top. There seems a lot of double postings about.
The use of "Post Reply" and "Reply to Thread" is a common methodology to all Forums no matter who the software coder is. I think its' just a matter of familiarity, those how have used forums before will have no problem with this and would be very difficult to change.
I think The Group need to take a step back and think about the guy, who’s 1st language isn’t English and who doesn’t log on every day and isn’t completely IT literate. I am being a little bit “devil’s advocate” on some of my comments, please regard as constructive critisism, but I believe these are issues for a lot of casual UKSMG users, maybe not the “professional user” who is on the site daily. The causal, not so familiar user, of mature years, may not wish to say anything, but just not visit. ??
GL Dave, I appreciate its a difficult Job, not made any easier by the fact very few of the membership seem prepared to get involed and stand for Committee, although many seem to have the time on their hands. .. anyway thats another debate.
