Hi Dave/Trev,
I have just logged onto the site for the first time for a few days and noticed a change to the Home Page. I cannot see the full page as it seems to have grown in width and if I now want to read a news item I find I have to use a horizontal scroll bar to do so. All other pages seem to be ok with no scroll bar. Is there some setting I need to perform at my end? or is this just the way it is now? Regards Dave G0MLC

Hi, I think that in some respects the lHome page layout is better than previously but it does seem very cluttered. There seems to have been an attempt to cram too much onto one page and it is noy very easy to read, being necessary to use the scoll bars continuously. Can it noy be organsied so that when one selects a forum, such as this, or another topic then at least 50% of the width of the page is dedicated to the selected item?

Hi Andy, thanks for your comments. Our webmaster Dave is away on his hols at the moment and I am holding the fort. As far as I know we are largely constrained by the site template and have little room for manouver. It seems to be possible to arrange for individual areas of the site to be opened in 'full screen' mode (the G5KW award winners for example) and personally I would like to see these extended to cover at least the most regularly accessed areas of the site. There are some aspects of the site I don't have permissions to access, but I do know that Dave is looking at this when his work committments permit. For what its worth, the central window which opens up most of the links takes up exactly half of the useable width of the site. In that respect, it is little different to the old site but we are tending to make more use of the 'sidebars' and as a result it does look more crowded.

I have just taken a look at the site using the XYL's 17 inch laptop in its normal 1400 x 900 pixel display resolution and the full width of the site is displayed and is quite easy to read with no side to side scrolling required. I would guess most people these days are using 17 inch monitors or larger, so I hope this issue will eventually be overtaken by events.

The site is still very much a work in progress Andy and I hope that we can continue to mould it to suit everyone a little more.

Thanks,
Trev

Coming back from a long winter [propagation] nap, the new site was a pleasant surprise. It is obvious the hard work put into it. Thanks, great job.

Totally agree. I have just registered on this site, having recently joined the SMG.
Three columns isn't working here, the centre pane is too narrow and some pages don't fit, The standings tables for example won't fit and cannot be scrolled side to side. (I'm on a 19" monitor, the one in the shack is only 17")
Much of the stuff in the side bars is superfluous, can we have it as optional ?

</gripe>

The site on the whole is however, a mine of information and easy to navigate. Well done and thanks to the webmaster.
