hi , I've a new PC for the shack but its only got 1 9 pin com port.
I need another 2 com ports so can anyone recommend some USB to Com Port adapters that work ok ?
Its a small form factor PC so it also takes half size pci cards too.

Try eBay for a dual serial port card. I bought one a while ago and when inserted it gave me two addittiinal com ports. You can if course put two cards in if you have enought soared slots and gain 4 additional ports.

I've done this with Vista without any driver issues, just plug an play, but I did install the drivers that came with the card just in case. There are 4 port serial cards out that if you need it. If you cant find a supplier let me know and I'll forward the supplier I used. Just PM me or email to

hi jamie , ZL is still looking for GW

if this pcb physically fits in the case and into a pci slot you could cut the metal support in half if reduced size is needed , it uses a ribbon for one socket .

or get usb adapters like one below , pricey .

or these

if running digi interfaces etc might be worth swapping to a G4ZLP USB MINIPRO , see website ZLP electronics

I failed to get the Maplin USB to Serial converter to work in my Windows 7 64bit Desktop, but they work on Windows 7 32bit on my LapTop.

I managed to find two (2nd hand) different dual port PCI cards that work fine so I have 4 working serial ports.

At work, we use a Belkin USB to serial port adapter. Everyone has the same type, but PCs vary from Windows XP, Windows 7 and Linux Mint. The adapter works on all of them. I can't remember the model number, though, I'd need to check on Monday.
