What is the trick to getting an email for UKSMG members? There seems to be no lookup like the great one on the old website - only available way is to look a member profiles apparently, and the emails may not be shown there What am I missing here?

I guess my previous post about the inaccessibility of members email addresses somehow got lost Please try to make something like the old site so you could look up the secure email address of a member!

Also, please make it so the most recent forum posts are at the top of the page....like the announcements are. It is very difficult to try to find the most recent posting or following a discussion when the most recent posting is on a different page TNX!

It is still there Lance, go to the UKSMG tab at the top of the screen then email search!
Regarding the flow of the Forum posts I agree. I'll ask Dave if its something we can do tomorrow. 73, Trev

Further to Lance's comments below, one of the reasons for requiring users of the new site to register on first joining the site was to update what in many cases was very much out of date information on the old site. This particularly applied to emails, many of which were well out of date and where we had no means of checking the validity. Rather than port this outdated information across to here from the old site, we have asked all users of this site to register on first use to ensure that we hold up to date information.

As part of this process, users are required to provide a valid email address but with the option to hide this from other users. Where no email address is shown after an enquiry [UKSMG] [email] it is because the user has exercised this option.

There are two possible solutions to this that spring to mind. First, users not keen to expose their normal email address to the wider world take advantage of our facility to provide a uksmg.net address and use that in lieu. This option will only apply if you are a UKSMG member. For those users who are not members, and indeed for all users, the site has a Private Message (PM) facility that will not only send a PM to your correspondent but will also alert them to the fact that a message is waiting by email. Should you wish to continue the conversation by email then you just need to ask your correspondent for the needed email address. Hope this helps, any questions please ask.

Following up from earlier postings; we have tried to alter the direction of flow of the forum posts, in other words whether the latest post appears at the top or the bottom of the list. Whilst we were successful in being able to change this, it had the effect of breaking the links between the various posts and their brief outline under 'Latest Forum Posts' on the main pages. We have reset the system back to latest post at the end of the list until we can find an effective solution for this.

Double posting still occasionally occurs in both forum and announcement postings. I believe this is due to the delay in the system whilst the post is 'dovetailed into the site' for want of a better phrase. This can take up to 30 secs on occasions but will always end with a message indicating a successful post. Personally I think this is too long and will investigate this once other priority items have been fixed. If the reply to or post buttons are pressed again during this period, then double posts can occur. Whilst getting used to the system my advice, particularly if you have a lengthy or complex posting to make, is to draft your post off site in Notepad or similar and save it. In this way if your carefully crafted message is lost, then it will be easy to copy and re-post.

For Adrian, all of the committee have moderator privileges; we found this the best way to ensure that someone was available at most times to deal with the occasional spam post that may need removing. In practice, there are usually only one, maybe two available at any one time.

Finally for the moment, its my wedding anniversary today and if I wish to live until tomorrow, i may have to spend slightly less time at the keyboard today : -) Thanks, Trev G3ZYY
