Standings Tables |

![]() Trev, EA5ISZ | We have spent a good deal of time attempting to get this right although I appreciate everyone will have their own ideas about how to proceed. As things stand, the DXCC column includes all modes including EME, for most people this is the definitive table and there is no point in us duplicating this as we have been doing in the past. The reasons for the changes are clearly stated and are the result of input from the committee and wider membership base. It is only necessary to look at the comments in the Antenna section to see that not everyone has been happy with the way the tables have been arranged to date. As with most things on the site it will be subject to change. Indeed, we hope that the table itself will ultimately allow users to set their own preferences on the way the results are displayed. As I stated in the original announcement, we are currently sorting by using the Total column as was previously the case. To change this requires a fairly major alteration in the way the table is constructed however, this is being pursued as a serious alternative. It is my view, and that of the committee, that these changes should benefit everyone whilst giving prominence to the specialist areas championed by a minority of our members. Give me 24 hours and things should be clearer ![]()

Just one "technical" remark. I propose that the Total field is automatically calculated by the system as the sum of the Terr and EME fields, instead of being entered manually. Moreover the Terr and EME fields should be both reset to zero by default. In this way people would be forced to enter the requested data. Otherwise people may just continue to updating the Total field without bothering to also indicating Terr and EME standings. 73 Tony I0JX

Your comment regarding auto calculation of the Total field was also what I would have liked to do however, there is a problem with that. Simply put, the Terr and EME field will probably have claims for working the same country. eg. Most EME ops have worked W7GJ and they will all have also worked the USA. If we auto add those columns the USA will count twice. As there is no way to tell which countries/entities form part of the claim we are unable to do this automatically. I also did think about setting the figures to zero in the Total column however not everyone has an easy method of calculating this total such as a computer log. I didn't want to create too much extra work for those in that position. As things stand, anyone not using EME (the majority at present) need only copy the Total figure into the Terr column. The EME Ops will need to do slightly more as they will have to separate any EME only countries worked from the Total in order to calculate the Terr figure. I think most people will pick up on this fairly quickly once they become aware of it; I intend to send a rare email to all website users explaining the changes (mainly a copy of the Announcement for those users who do not access the site often) We will take a look at the update in a few weeks to see how it is progressing and decide whether any additional action needs to be taken. We are also looking very hard at getting a table that will allow each user to decide in what order the listing is shown. Eg; if you are a keen EME op, you may wish to have the list in EME order, the same for Terrestrial only. Other users may be happyto retain the current system based on the Total number worked by whatever means. Its proving slightly more complex than first thought, but we are reasonably confident it can be done. I hope this helps explain the reasons we have done this Tony, 73, Trev

I keep getting this message: ERROR - Scores could not be entered Column count doesn't match value count at row 1 I tried several times and with different number, etc., but I keep getting the error message. Here is what I have entered: Name - Paul Total - 76 DXCC - 0 Terrestrial - 62 EME - 19 Major Grids - 58 Minor Grids - 686 WAZ - 21 Locator - CN87lj Rig - IC-756proIII Antenna - 8 element, no elev. IOTA - 0 Do you see anything that I've done incorrectly? Thanks! Paul, K7CW

I still wait for the day a standing table will appear with options for small medium and large antennas, noisy environment, quiet environment, age, gender, hill top location, valley location, people on the north / south pole, etc. etc. Take apart all the claims that are based on high power (mostly noted as 100 W) and other behaviour which is not fully according so called ham spirit...... Shouldn't we better stop with all those tables? It simply is impossible to compare stations and results. Good luck and 73, Peter
